Since 2014, the Ministry of Commerce of China has lifted the restriction that Chinese investors must obtain business approval for overseas investments exceeding RMB 100 million, accelerating the approval process for overseas investments. Since then, the enthusiasm for Chinese investors to expand overseas has begun to heat up.According to the statistics of the Ministry of Commerce of China, in 2024, Chinese enterprises’ non-financial direct investment in countries jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative amounted to 33.69 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 5.4% compared with the previous year. According to the data statistics in 2023, the total overseas investment of Chinese tourism enterprises has exceeded 5 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 38% compared with the previous year. The investment sectors has expanded from traditional travel agency business to diversified fields such as investment and operation of overseas attractions, hotel management, cultural and tourism assets, online travel platforms, and cultural and tourism complexes, covering key markets such as Southeast Asia, Europe, and Africa. These facts clearly demonstrate the trend of Chinese tourism enterprises and investors accelerating their international strategies and ambitions.
